First, take a look at what the study was intended to do. Its primary goal was to understand more about the risk factors and the progression of both ARMD and cataracts, and it was also put together in order to evaluate the effect of zinc and high doses of antioxidants on the same as an effective treatment for macular degeneration. This clinical study eventually came back with the information that high levels of antioxidants and zinc do in fact significantly reduce the chances of incurring advanced age related macular degeneration, which is where vision can be rendered unusable and where severe vision loss does set in. While no similar link was found to cataracts, this study has done a great deal to shed light on what has been a very frightening topic.
